Camille Barrès
Couture Artist
Camille Barrès is a French artist born in Nice. She makes couture her language and the silhouette the locus of her work.
A CERTAIN IDEA OF BEAUTY
THE APPARITION
At the heart of Camille Barrès’ work lies a pursuit of beauty.
Not as a fixed ideal, but as a presence waiting to emerge. A silhouette, a form or a presence first takes shape in the imagination before finding its reality in matter. The work then becomes a pursuit of this apparition, refining its lines, proportions and volumes until it reaches a balance in which nothing seems able to be added or taken away.
This pursuit exists beyond the shifts of trends or seasons. It unfolds over time, informed by forms of the past and by the search for a presence that seems to transcend the ordinary.
Today, couture is its primary language. When the work is intended to be worn, it encounters the body, which becomes its living support. Movement then transforms its perception, allowing it to exist differently in space.

THE MEDITERRANEAN
Born on the French Riviera, Camille Barrès has a profound connection to the Mediterranean that runs throughout her work. Its light, its landscapes and the enduring presence of Antiquity form an aesthetic territory to which she continually returns.
Antiquity is not approached as a repertoire to be reproduced, but as the trace of a particular idea of beauty and presence. Its lines, drapery and volumes surface throughout her work without ever seeking reconstruction.
APOTHEOSIS
With APOTHEOSIS, Camille Barrès gives this pursuit the form of a collection for the first time.
Five silhouettes unfold as a progression towards elevation. Each marks a stage within the same movement, culminating in apotheosis.
APOTHEOSIS thus opens a new chapter in her work: the emergence of a practice she now develops as a couture artist.

WEARABLE ART
Today, this exploration also finds an essential expression in private bridal commissions.
Each commission begins with an encounter with a woman. Her story, her sensibility and the way she wishes to appear become the starting point for a new work — created for her and for her alone.
The body then becomes the living support of the work. The creation develops through this singular relationship until it finds its final form on the woman who will wear it.
Within Camille Barrès’ current practice, bridal couture has thus become a privileged territory for wearable art.
FROM DRAWING TO MATERIAL
Dress has been part of Camille Barrès’ world since childhood. She trained in Paris at the École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne before gaining experience within houses including Celine and Nina Ricci.
From drawing and cutting to draping and construction, she has developed a practice in which conception and making remain intimately connected. This mastery allows her to preserve a direct link between the work’s initial apparition and its materialisation, through to the final gestures of the atelier.
After nearly a decade in Paris, she returned to the French Riviera and established her practice in Nice. It is here that she now develops her body of work and personally creates the private commissions entrusted to her.
